The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Mr. Hashimu Mantu, brother of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Nasiru Mantu in the state.

Mantu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and village Chief in Gindiri was  found ‘motionless’ in his hometown, Chanso, Gindiri in Mangu Local Government Area and confirmed in hospital to be dead, the police said.

Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna in a press statement signed and issued in Jos, the state capital Tuesday, said the corpse had been recovered and thereafter released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

“On 16/11/2019 at about 0630hrs, the Plateau State Police Command received information that a corpse was seen at a bush near Chanso Village in Gindiri District of Mangu LGA.

“The police upon the receipt of the information, detectives of the Command were immediately mobilized to the scene of the crime. On arrival, one Alhaji Hashimu Mantu ‘m’ aged 42 years was found motionless. He was rushed to JUTH in Gindiri and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“At the scene of crime, the victim’s handset and a stick were recovered. The corpse was thereafter released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

“No suspect arrested yet but efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspect(s) to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
