A 35-year-old driver identified as Linus Amuku, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State for reckless driving.
The alleged recklessness of the driver was said to have led to the injury of a road user, Godwin Udoh.
The defendant who appeared before Magistrate Damilola Sekoni was accused of dangerous driving on the public highway with his Toyota Venza car with number plate – EKY 240 DU.
According to the police prosecutor, Mrs Omobola Bosede, the accused after hitting Udoh also collided with another vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with number plate EPE 199 XP, thereby endangering the lives of other road users.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at Igbado area along Ondo-Ore road, which the prosecutor said was contrary to and punishable under sections 18 of the traffic law cap 136 Vol. 3 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The prosecutor who applied for a date to enable him study the case file informed the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case.
The defence counsel, Barrister Adesanmi applied that the defendant be released to him, arguing that the application is not to abuse the court as he stressed that the defendant who was on transit through the area has no relatives or friends within the jurisdiction.
The Chief Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, however, granted the application of the defence counsel and ordered him to produce the defendant whenever he is needed in court.
The case was subsequently adjourned till December 18, 2019.
